: : Mark,

: : Please consider putting in 2 more transaction types in your buy/sell box.

: : - Sell short

: : - Buy to cover

: : The negative gains are presently very difficult to weed out when viewing any of the performance reports, and create a invalid totalization of performance on the entire portfolio.

: : It would be nice if the FM scripts performed an inverse on the positive/negative signs if either of these two bullets are selected.

: : Thanks for your consideration, and wonderful program,
: : Jim

: Hi Jim,

: Thanks for the suggestion. Can you give me an example or two of
: something that is reported that should have its sign changed when being
: reported?

: As I think you already know, we do support both long/short positions.
: FM determines this automatically based on whether you own a positive or
: negative number of shares. So, if you own 0 shares, and then record a
: sell, FM considers this as selling short. If you then own a negative
: number of shares, and record a buy, FM considers this a buy to cover
: your short position.

: Thanks,
: Mark

I guess one example would be on the Portfolio Performance report. My short positions are all presently profitable with a gain. The gain columns all have values in them which is nice to see, but not all of the %gain columns have values. Some values are missing and just say "N.A."

It looks like the ones that have the "N.A" are my short positions which have never had a buy to cover. I've only had one trade on these.

The second example would be the Investment Performance report. The %gain fields do have values, except the values are negative. When the negative values for my profitable short positions are totalized along with my profitable long positions, the entire portfolio appears to be less profitable than it really is.

I hope this info is what you were looking for.

Thanks again,
Jim Padberg
