Merging Portfolios

As I understand it if the same stock is owned in multiple portfolios it is unable to be merged as one item in the "all" portfolio. This might result in the same stock commanding several lines in the "all" portfolio. This seems a common "bugbear" with a number of users.

1. Has anyone found a work around solution?

2. Is this issue likely to be covered in upgraded versions?
