: : I have a current portfolio tracker that I use on a web sight for the last four years, I was looking at this software so I can keep track of lost and gains without having to depend on the web sight. But where would I begin to transfer things over?

: : Thank you!

: I think I figured it out, When I create my portfolio I would just take the number of shares I have and when I place price for purchase I would just place the cost\share cost in. Then that would show my total gain or lost? What you think? And as I go on buying stock or receive a dividend I would just plug the figures in. And when tax time comes I let my accountant take care of that part. I just want to keep track of what I'm putting in for money and if I'm making money or not.

: Thanks.

Hi Dale,

You could do this, but if you acquired your shares through multiple purchases
you would lose the information on when you acquired each set of shares. This
may affect whether you have to pay long or short term capital gains. If you
bought the shares you owned at multiple times it would be best to record
each of the separate transactions.

The best way to learn how to use Fund Manager is to walk through our online
tutorial at:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tutor.html

Once you get all your shares entered, the next time you sell some, you can
see the gain/loss from your proceeds by creating one of the capital gain
reports. Fund Manager supports 3 different accounting methods, and has
3 different capital gain reports:

FIFO
Average Cost
Specific Lot

Thanks,
Mark
