: Hi Mark:

: I'm afraid that this Canadian $ saga isn't quite over yet.

: To get sensible results for my mixed US$ and CDN$ portfolio, I have to "invert prices when updating" to get the whole portfolio calculated in USD.

: Trouble is, when I get to the date (30 December 2003) when Yahoo switched to reporting in CDN cents to the US$, the reciprocal becomes very small (1/76), and it seems to be treated by Fund Manager as zero. So although the file operation x0.01 seems to work OK for the "open" and "high" prices, it doesn't seem to work for the closing price.

: This is all starting to get very complicated. Any clues?

: Jack

Hi Jack,

To convert to USD, you can retrieve historical prices using ^CCD, and have
the investment properties set to invert price when retrieving. Then, you
will have to scale the prices by 100 instead of 0.01.

For example:

^CCD retrieved: 76.0
^CCD inverted: 0.013158
^CCD multiplied by 100: 1.3158

Once you get your historical prices using ^CCD, switch the symbol over
to USDCAD=X and turn off the "invert price" option. This way all your
new daily exchange rates will come in around the 1.3 value, without
any adjustments.

I realize this is all a little tricky. It would be much easier if Yahoo
had historical prices for USDCAD=X, but unfortunately, they only have
them for ^CCD.

Thanks,
Mark
