: : : : : I have two portfolios containing the same fund in different amounts. How does one keep the fund shares separated? When I added this fund to the second portfolio it corrupted the rist portfolio's data.

: : : : Currently our technical support person, Mark, is on vacation,
: : : : and will return June 19th. Mark will reply to your posting when he returns.
: : : : We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

: : : Hi Dan,

: : : To track the same investment with different transaction histories, create a
: : : new investment file (select "File/New Investment...") for each account holding
: : : the same fund or stock. This will allow you to record different transactions for
: : : each account. Each investment will have the same ticker symbol, but you will
: : : assign them unique filenames. For example, you can track two accounts holding
: : : IBM by creating 2 investments, both could be named IBM (or you could call them
: : : IBM1 and IBM2, or whatever you prefer). Both investments would have
: : : the ticker symbol IBM, but then the filenames would be IBM1.dat and IBM2.dat.
: : : (You could even let them have the same filename if you wanted, but you would
: : : need to store them in separate folders then.)

: : : Thanks,
: : : Mark

: : Mark,

: : Thanks for the guidance. I now understand the proper procedure to accomplish what I want to do.

: : However, before receiving your guidance I linked two accounts to the same investment with the same name. Reviewing the accounts now it appears that purchases belonging to account2 erased prior purchases belonging to account1. Is that possible? I suppose I can re-enter account1 data, but I'm curious as to what happened to the original data. Also I’d like to make certain that the account1 data isn’t hidden in account2 (although it doesn’t show under purchases for that account).

: Hi Dan,

: If you had the same investment file opened twice at the same time, this
: could happen. Only the changes to the last opened investment would
: be remembered. If you just had the investment in 2 different portfolios,
: this should not cause data to be erased. You can double check to see what
: transactions/prices you have recorded by using the "Edit / All Data..."
: dialog. For all your transactions, select the "Investments (all)" data type.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Mark,

Investments intended for account2 show up in both account1 and account2. To correct this can I delete the incorrect investments in account1 without damaging the data in account 2?

Dan
