: I want to begin tracking my 401k, checking and savings accounts to give a complete financial picture. : I only want to record my quarterly position in an overall view. For example, my contribution, company contribution, fund performance. I am not sure how to do this. : The same with cash,,, end of month statement, showning interest earned. I believe the cash is in the tips/tricks but I can't find anything on the 401K. : Thanks : Jackson Hi Jackson, For all of these accounts, I'd suggest treating them like cash accounts, with a constant $1 share price. When you record a contribution (yours or from your company), just record a buy with the number of shares equal to the dollar value of the contribution, and the share price kept at $1. To record increases or decreases in the value, use a reinvested distribution with the shares equal to the amount the account went up or down, and keeping the constant $1 share price. Cash/checking accounts work the same, just keep the share price at $1. All your transactions would have the number of shares equal to the dollar amount of the transaction.
