Yes, this is correct. : the only way to figure out any possible advantages of the port editor method vs putting different ports into different folders in the "open port" window (as you explained 2 messages ago)would be to try both methods. but it is alot of work to set them up just to compare. and take one apart if i don't like using it. or perhaps one method is better for some things. can you explain why one method would be preferred over the other? (eg, if several ports are nested using port editor, will updating prices on the topmost automatically update prices on the ones within/below?). how might one decide which method to go with? You don't have to choose, you could use both methods if you want. Here are some reasons why you might want to use nested sub-portfolios: 1) It gives you the ability to look at cumulative values for several sub-portfolios. For example: -Port A You could graph or report on Port A, and see the combination of Port B and Port C. You could accomplish the same thing with individual portfolio files (*.mm4), but then when you modify Port B or C you would also have to update Port A. With using sub-portfolios, the maintenance is much easier and automatic. 2) A single price retrieve will update all your open investments, so you only have to do it once. 3) You can create one report that lists all your portfolios on a single report, sub-totalled by sub-portfolio. For example, see the 2nd portfolio value report here: http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/demo2.html#portfolio_value Overall, using sub-portfolios gives you more flexibility and reporting capability, with less maintenance than multiple top level portfolio files. It is completely up to you how you want to organize your portfolios though, you can keep doing it the same was as before too, or a combination of the two... Thanks,
