OK Mark here is what I have done. It appears that the error code is that the network socket is broken. I found the setting and disabled the network socket. I easily connected to your site when I go to the message board or when I go to webhelp. It hangs up when going for prices. Is there something in your program that designates if it is a network or dial up. The box on the proxy server is not checked, so I don't know if there is anywhere else that I may need to look to change some settings. JD : Hi JD,
: The problem is more likely due to the new PC, rather than 4.7 vs. 6.4 version : of Fund Manager. Both versions access the internet in the same manner (winsock). : FM is running fine under Windows XP. I haven't seen that error code much : before. Are you using a proxy server? Have you double checked your settings : under "Options/Internet Settings..."? : I would recommend searching Microsoft's site for this error code, and seeing : if they have any knowledge base articles on what could cause this. Good : search words would be "winsock error 10050". : Thanks, : Mark : -- : Mark Beiley : : Fund Manager, portfolio management software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/00/XP : /XP : : : : I got a new PC and loaded v 6 onto it. It is running windows xp. I haven't gotten rid of my old PC yet and I have no trouble connecting using v4. : : Does this help? Do I need to do a reinstall of v6 or download the latest version? Have you been having trouble with xp? : : JD : : Hi JD, : : : I'm not sure what could cause this. Did this coincide with installing 6.x? : : : Did anything else on your computer change? If you'd like to try the old : : : 4.x version, you can download it here: : : : http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/programs/fundmn47.exe : : : I wouldn't expect the version of Fund Manager to change the result, but : : : it may be worth trying. : : : Thanks, : : : Mark : : : : OK the error number is 10050 which indicates the program found a dead network connection. I am not on a network, but a 56K dial up. I can't find the setting that is telling the program I am on a network. : : : : : : : Please check the exact error number, and then refer to: : : : : : http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/werror.html : : : : : for a description of what is going on. I don't think the old/new version : : : : : of FM will change anything, but if you'd like a pointer to an old version : : : : : to test out please let me know. : : : : : Thanks, : : : : : Mark : : : : : -- : : : : : Mark Beiley : : : : : : : : : : Fund Manager, portfolio management software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/00/XP : : : : : /XP : : : : : : : : : : : I nget a message that reads something like return mesage 10050 from (socket). I don't think that is exactly correct, but close. : : : : : : JD : : : : : : : : : : : : : : I have read the previous postings but can't seem to find out why I can't DL prices. I just loaded v6. I had no problems d/l prices with my previous v4. It was fast & easy. I have gone to properties and selected d/l prices. It appears that nothing happens when I select the update from internet key. I have my internet connection on but don't seem to be conecting to the server. : : : : : : : : thanks : : : : : : : : JD : : : : : : : Hi JD, : : : : : : : Can you please go into: "Edit/Internet Retrieve/Settings..." and double : : : : : : : check everything is correct, like your proxy settings if you are using one. : : : : : : : Next, use "Edit/Internet Retrieve/Prices" to make sure you are selecting : : : : : : : the right command. What happens when you do this? Do you see the dialog : : : : : : : box that shows the retrieve status? Do you get any messages? : : : : : : : Thanks, : : : : : : : Mark : : : : : : : -- : : : : : : : Mark Beiley : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Fund Manager, portfolio management software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/00/XP : : : : : : : /XP : : : : : : :
