: : : : : : : : Hi Mark,
: : : : : : : : Magic product and the jse fix works well with shares, however mutual funds are a bit of a problem as they download (after the 100 fix) as 1000 times the value.
: : : : : : : : (Before the fix they downloaded as 100000 times)
: : : : : : : : ie after the 100 fix the share price is correct but the mutual fund price is
: : : : : : : : R1,000.00 instead of R1.00
: : : : : : : : On the Johannesburg Stock Exchange all shares codes are 3 letters long while the Mutual Funds are four letters long; maybe that will help you devise a solution. Thanks

: : : : : : : Hi Bob,
: : : : : : : Could you give me a sample mutual fund symbol to experiment with?
: : : : : : : I couldn't find a ticker lookup on this site, and I'm not familar with
: : : : : : : JSE fund symbols...

: : : : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : : : Mark

: : : : : : Hi Mark,
: : : : : : Sure. For example a share say Control Instr Grp is CNL while a mutual fund say Coronation Financial Growth Fund is CNFG. All the shares are 3 letters long while the Mutual Funds are 4 Letters long. There is a ticker lookup on the JSE site; it is accessed when you try to look up a price and do not know the code so you just press search with an empty code box and an enormous list appears as a lookup.
: : : : : : Many thanks,
: : : : : : BOB

: : : : :
: : : : : Hi Bob,
: : : : : When I look up CNFG on JSE with my browser, I see the last price of 1161530.
: : : : : CNL shows a last price of 98. This is how Fund Manager imports them as well.
: : : : : Do you know why the fund prices are being reported so high? Sounds like the
: : : : : server may be reporting the data incorrectly, or in some units that we're not
: : : : : aware of?

: : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : Mark

: : : : :
: : : : Hi Mark,
: : : : Ok, CNL is a share and is cents, ie when you looked at CNL it was 98/100= 0.98 and that is no problem.
: : : : However CNFG is a Mutual Fund and is reported as 1161530/100/1000=11.61530 which is the actual price.
: : : : I am really getting into your software and am enjoying it. Is there a Professional Fund Manager version, ie multiple portfolios (different clients) but a global download capability? Am using the software presently in that mode in a limited fashion but find the continual downloading for each portfolio the only weakness. Maybe a scheduler (built into FM) would solve that.
: : : : Many thanks,
: : : : BOB

: : : Hi Bob,

: : : I don't understand, why is the mutual fund reported 1000 times higher
: : : than the "share"? I see that it is, but aren't these figures suppose
: : : to be in the same units to begin with?

: : : You can have as many portfolios as you'd like. You can set up portfolios
: : : for each client, and then also have a master portfolio containing all of
: : : the investments in every portfolio. This way, you just have to do a single
: : : price update. Also, FM supports command line options for automating
: : : unattended price retrievals. Use the windows scheduler tool to handle
: : : the scheduling, along with the command line arguments for FM. The command
: : : line arguments are documented in the online help.

: : : Thanks,

: : Hi Mark,
: : I must admit I was hoping you would come up with a brilliant fix for the Mutual Funds issue. I have no idea how or why the JSE reports as it does and I dare say they would not entertain a change to suit us. Is there no way to effect a fix along the lines of the way you manipulate the shares data with the /100 fix?
: : Thanks for the hints. Great stuff.
: : Best wishes,
: : BOB

:
: Hi Bob,
: I guess the problem is, how should FM know when to divide by the extra
: 1000? Sure seems like all the prices should be in the same units...
: I guess one workaround is to change the divide by number in the registry
: and set up 2 portfolios for updating prices, one which uses divide by 100, and
: the other divide by 100000.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Hi Marc,
The only way I can see around it is if FM can divide by 100 for all three letter codes and by 100000 for all 4 letter codes.
Can you manipulate the registry to that extent?
Best wishes,
BOB
