: : : : : no problem, just looking for explanation/advise re: downloading quotes. : : : : : currently using yahoo-historical, split adjustment set to off, and entering dates. : : : : : 1. is there a source of quotes that will somehow also indicate when splits have occurred so that i don't have to research and enter them one at a time. : : : : Not really, other than the Yahoo Adjusted server. : : : : : 2. what is difference between yahoo and yahoo-historical/yahoo-adjusted historical : : : : The "Yahoo (Historical)" prices are the actual prices that the investment : : : : closed at on that day. The "Yahoo (Adjusted Historical)" prices have been : : : : adjusted for splits and distributions. If you are also manually recording : : : : splits and distributions, you would not want to retrieve with the adjusted : : : : prices, as you will be double counting for the splits and distributions. : : : : Thanks, : : : : Mark : : : : -- : : : : Mark Beiley : : : : : : : : Fund Manager for Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT : : : : : : : : : : : : : : under options>internet, you show yahoo, yahoo historical, and yahoo adjusted historical. how is plain yahoo different than other two. : : With "Yahoo" it retrieves only the most current price. The other two : : are "historical" servers. That means you will be prompted for a date range : : to update. There are "adjusted" and non-adjusted prices for historical quotes. : : The adjusted prices have been adjusted for splits and distributions. If you : : plan to manually enter the splits and distributions you would just use : : the regular "Yahoo (Historical)" server, so as to not double count the splits : : and distributions. : : Thanks, : : Mark : : -- : : Mark Beiley : : : : Fund Manager for Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT : : : : : : ok. i realize there probably varying opinion about this, but... : 1.if i want to start watching a stock, and want a few years of price history for it... what is the recommended approach: historical or adjusted historical, (or something else?). what are the pros and cons. : 2. is there a source other than yahoo that i would be better off with. If you are just analyzing stocks and don't plan to enter splits/distributions then use the adjusted one. If you are going to be entering your own transactions, I would use the historical one, and enter the splits/distributions, so you can see them. Yahoo is a good historical server. Thanks, Mark -- Mark Beiley
