: : : : no problem,just looking for explanation/advise re: downloading quotes.

: : : : currently using yahoo-historical, split adjustment set to off, and entering dates.

: : : : 1. is there a source of quotes that will somehow also indicate when splits have occurred so that i don't have to research and enter them one at a time.

: : : Not really, other than the Yahoo Adjusted server.

: : : : 2. what is difference between yahoo and yahoo-historical/yahoo-adjusted historical

: : : The "Yahoo (Historical)" prices are the actual prices that the investment
: : : closed at on that day. The "Yahoo (Adjusted Historical)" prices have been
: : : adjusted for splits and distributions. If you are also manually recording
: : : splits and distributions, you would not want to retrieve with the adjusted
: : : prices, as you will be double counting for the splits and distributions.

: : : Thanks,
: : : Mark

: : under options>internet, you show yahoo, yahoo historical, and yahoo adjusted historical. how is plain yahoo different than other two.

: With "Yahoo" it retrieves only the most current price. The other two
: are "historical" servers. That means you will be prompted for a date range
: to update. There are "adjusted" and non-adjusted prices for historical quotes.
: The adjusted prices have been adjusted for splits and distributions. If you
: plan to manually enter the splits and distributions you would just use
: the regular "Yahoo (Historical)" server, so as to not double count the splits
: and distributions.

: Thanks,
: Mark

ok. i realize there probably varying opinion about this, but...
1.if i want to start watching a stock, and want a few years of price history for it... what is the recommended approach: historical or adjusted historical, (or something else?). what are the pros and cons.
2. is there a source other than yahoo that i would be better off with.
