: : : no problem,just looking for explanation/advise re: downloading quotes.

: : : currently using yahoo-historical, split adjustment set to off, and entering dates.

: : : 1. is there a source of quotes that will somehow also indicate when splits have occurred so that i don't have to research and enter them one at a time.

: : Not really, other than the Yahoo Adjusted server.

: : : 2. what is difference between yahoo and yahoo-historical/yahoo-adjusted historical

: : The "Yahoo (Historical)" prices are the actual prices that the investment
: : closed at on that day. The "Yahoo (Adjusted Historical)" prices have been
: : adjusted for splits and distributions. If you are also manually recording
: : splits and distributions, you would not want to retrieve with the adjusted
: : prices, as you will be double counting for the splits and distributions.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: under options>internet, you show yahoo, yahoo historical, and yahoo adjusted historical. how is plain yahoo different than other two.

With "Yahoo" it retrieves only the most current price. The other two
are "historical" servers. That means you will be prompted for a date range
to update. There are "adjusted" and non-adjusted prices for historical quotes.
The adjusted prices have been adjusted for splits and distributions. If you
plan to manually enter the splits and distributions you would just use
the regular "Yahoo (Historical)" server, so as to not double count the splits
and distributions.

Thanks,
Mark
