: I've created a larger issue in trying to fix a small issue. Now, when I close FM, I get the message: "Automatic backup aborted. Investments in the backup directory are currently open." How do I close the investments in the backup directory so that the automatic backup will occur when I close FM?

Hi Richard,

First, make sure you know where you're auto-backing up to. Look in FM under "Options / Preferences... / Data" to find the location of your autobackup directory.

Next, look at where all your investments are being opened from. One easy way to do this is to create a Custom report with the "Path and filename" field. Have the report "List By" Investment. Create it at your highest level sub-portfolio, so it will include all your investments. If you have hidden investments, turn on "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios", so you will see these as well.

Once you find any investments that you have open from the autoback directory you need to move them out of the autoback directory. If you only have a few, the easiest way is to use the Portfolio Editor. Find the investment you want to move, hilight it, and choose "File / Save Investment As...", and save it to your normal data location (not inside the autoback folder).

If you need to move a lot of investments, you can close them within FM, and then use something like Windows Explorer to move the investments files out of the autoback folder and into your regular data folder. Now, re-open the investments from the regular data folder using "File / Open Investment(s)...".

Thanks,
Mark
