Changes in performance that I did not make

I am trying to track the performance of the index fund SPY, but I need to do so multiple times, for different start dates. I created a sub-portfolio, and created a new security for this sub-portfolio, and entered an intitial purchase of SPY at an apropriate price. I record dividends, and reinvestments, as appropriate. I then run a 'portfolio performance' report, and agree with the results.
I then created a new sub-portfolio, and now want to track the SPY using a different start date. I create a new investment for this sub portfolio, and track the starting date, and dividends, in a similar manner. When I run the 'portfolio performance' report, I do not agree with the results. Now, when I go back to the first sub-portfolio, and run the same 'portfolio performance' report that I originally did, I get a different result.
Can you help me with this? I very much appreciate it.
