: Mark,
: Thanks for your response of Aug 7 on this subject. Did have a number of sold investments with a negative fractional share balance. Corrected that. Now the problem is that two of my cash accounts are displaying N.A. on %Gain-I which in turn, calculates the sub-portfolio and top level portfolio as N.A. In each cash account there is one day that the share balance is negative. Is there a way to exclude the cash account in the behavior you intended to report short positions?
: Also one other question is that one of the predefined date settings is "Earliest transaction to date". The Beg Value is always zero on all of my investments. When I change the start date to Earliest transaction +1 day the one investment displays a Beg Value and a %Gain-V. Is there a way to display the beginning value of all my investments on the report within the time frame and calculate %Gain-V.
: Thanks,
: Gary T.

Hi Gary,

We're changing the way FM handles these "mixed" cases where you have some long and some short balances. Starting with 8.7 they will just be treated as long positions. In 8.6 we added support for calculating these %gains on short positions, and started enforcing that an investment must be all long or all short to calculate a %gain. 8.7 will relax this requirement, so you should be able to get the %gain on your portfolio again. If you'd like to beta test a pre-release of 8.7 just send us an email requesting this.

The beginning value on reports is the value on the morning of the starting report date. This is the same as the close of the prior day. To get a %gain-v you'll need to start the report at least 1 day after your first transaction, since the beginning value would be 0 otherwise.

Thanks,
Mark
