Hello scs,

It sounds like you are using the "Yahoo (Historical)" quote server? If so, when you retrieve prices you will get a dialog that asks for a date range and also gives 2 options to retrieve dividends and splits. You can just un-check these options to not retrieve these items.

Yes, you can just delete the entry if you'll be retrieving it from your online account. Use the Data Register by going to "Edit / All Data..." and select the "Distributions (all)" data type. Select the dividend, and choose the "Delete" button. This will delete the reinvestment as well.
