: I'm finally upgrading from v4.7 to the current v7.7 (Personal). In order to use the automated retrieve of transactions (my primary reason for getting the new version), I understand that I need to put the investments in each brokerage account in a different portfolio, each of which should be a subportfolio of my top level portfolio.

: The nuisance is that the Portfolio Wizard is demanding that I create new investments to populate it; if I don't, the portfolio gets wiped out when I exit the wizard. How do I create a blank sub-portfolio that I can then populate with the various investment files I've already created?

: Relatedly, I already have one portfolio that includes all my investments in my retirement account. How can I turn that portfolio into a sub-portfolio?

Hi Kelvin,

The sub-portfolios don't necessarily need to be right underneath your top level. You can have the sub-portfolio hierarchy as deep as you want.

In 7.x you must have at least one investment open in order to open the Portfolio Editor, so you can create some sub-portfolios. This is a slight quirk, and will be corrected in 8.0. You don't have to use the New Portfolio Wizard to create sub-portfolios, you can do this right from within the Portfolio Editor.

I'd suggest just opening your portfolio you created in 4.x, and then open the Portfolio Editor. Create your sub-portfolios, and click/drag the investments from the top level into the created sub-portfolios. You can use drag and drop, just like you do in Windows Explorer. Also, you would probably benefit from reading this tutorial:
