Maybe I'm looking for a report that doesn't exist. I would like a report that looks at how much I have invested, including multiple buys and sells, how much my position is worth now, and tells me the percent gain or loss. In my example above, an invested amount of $14,000 that is now worth $42,000 should show a gain of 200%. Is there no way to generate this simple but very useful report? I'm not looking to determine yield from this report, just a simple gain or loss.

: : Hi Mark
: : I have FM 6.8 Personal. If I buy and sell a stock within a certain time frame, the Portfolio Performance % gain-I seems OK. But if I buy and sell then buy within a defined time frame the Portfolio Performance gives me a strange % gain-I number. For example:

: : Portfolio Performance
: : ALL.mm4: 1/1/2006 - 12/29/2006

: : Inv. Name Beg Value Invested Dist. End Value Gain %Gain-I
: : Apollo 0.00 29,553 400 31,360 2,207 3.59
: : Lundin 0.00 14,539 0.00 42,893 28,354 60.42

: : How can a $28,000 gain on a $14,000 investment be 60%?

: Hi Robert,

: The percent gain numbers are not time/value weighted, they are simple straight divisions. Percent gains can sometimes be misleading depending on when/how you purchased within the time period being looked at. To see the equation for %Gain-I choose "Help / Help on Report..." from within this report. You will see the equation used, and hopefully that will illustrate how this can occur. You may wish to look at the ROI Yield number on this report instead of the percent gains, as the yield numbers are time and value weighted. If you still have questions after looking at the equation, please let me know.

: Thanks,
: Mark
