Hi Alex,
You can password protect your data by going to "Options / General Preferences... / Data" and turn on "Password Protect Data" and enter your desired password.

Yes, they are. The password protection is stored at the data file level (*.dat and *.mm4). When restoring, the password protected data files are restored back to the specified location, but they can't be opened without entering the password.
