: : : : : : : Hi Mark,

: : : : : : : For quite some time I have been retrieving the Canadian currency exchange rate (Symbol ^CCD) using the Yahoo quote server and it has always retrieved it in the format .9999 however since the beginning of this month the format has changed to 99.99. Needless to say, this affects my U.S. investments when I convert them to Canadian currency. Has anything changed in this regard?

: : : : : : : Thanx,
: : : : : : : Sheldon

: : : : : : Hi Sheldon,

: : : : : : I assume you're using the Yahoo quote server? You can find the symbols
: : : : : : for exchange rates here:

: : : : : : http://finance.yahoo.com/m3?u

: : : : : : For the one I believe you're looking for, you would use:

: : : : : : CADUSD=X

: : : : : : They have the conversions available in either direction. The value for
: : : : : : CADUSD=X is 0.7457,and the value for USDCAD=X is 1.3411.

: : : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : : Mark

: : : : : I have the same problem, the exchange rates are now out by a factor of 100. In addition, the symbols used in Yahoo's convertor table don't seem to be available when I try to update. It seems like something has changed very recently.
: : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : Stew

: : : : Hi Stew,

: : : : I do see that the price for ^CCD is being reported as 75.62 currently. It
: : : : sounds like for some reason Yahoo recently changed it from reporting as
: : : : 0.7562 to 75.62. I'm not sure why or when, but since it is 75.62 you may
: : : : want to change to the other symbol (CADUSD=X). I just tested this one,
: : : : and it retrieves fine from the Yahoo server, with the price like 0.7562.

: : : : Thanks,
: : : : Mark

: : : Hi Mark,
: : : I've got the same problem as discussed here. (Price format changed on Feb 27th) I use the Yahoo-Historical server because I only get updates weekly. The symbol (CADUSD=X) does not work on this server. Do you know of another symbol for this server? If not, can 'Splits' some how be used to adjust the price format?

: : : Thanks,
: : : Clive

: : Hi Clive,

: : Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't realize these weren't available on
: : the historical server. In this case, I'd recommend using the "File / File
: : Operations / Scale Prices..." menu command. You'd want to do this with only
: : the ^CCD investment open, and scale by 0.01.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Mark:

: This Canadian $ change by Yahoo has got me all screwed up. I tried the operation you suggested above, but get very odd results. When I edit the ^CCD data, Open, High and Low values are given as, say 0.76, while the close is given as 1.32, the reciprocal. But that applied only to some blocks of data. And the Canadian stocks, when viewed in US $ still show a huge step when Yahoo switched to the new system.

: When I download the CDN$ data from scratch, and apply your file operation, the same thing happens. What's the problem here? How can I get my Cnadian stocks to show sensible graphs again?

: Hope you can help!

: Jack

Hi Jack,

Here is what I just did, which seemed to work properly.

1) Create a new investment with ^CCD as the symbol.
2) Retrieve historical prices using the "Yahoo (Historical): server.
Now, all of the close/high/low/open should all be in the 75.0 range.
3) Use "File / File Operations / Scale Prices..." command. Set the date
range to the same as you retrieved in step #2. Use the "factor" of 0.01.
Now, all your close/high/low/open should be in the 0.75 range.
4) Now, to maintain this exchange rate investment, switch the symbol
to CADUSD=X. Then, when you do daily price updates from the regular Yahoo
server, the daily close will update in the 0.75 range also, and you won't
need to keep using the scale prices command.

All of this is rather confusing/painful, but unfortunately Yahoo doesn't
carry historical prices for CADUSD=X, so you must use ^CCD and then scale
those prior to switching over to using CADUSD=X.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Mark
