Hi again

Back up path showing was valid, but for some reason was being ignored (error message referred to a different, presumably default location on C drive that has deliberatly never been used by me as far as I know)

I ended up abandoning the new invesments that would not save, and reinstalling FundManager, and recreating the investments - this fixed the problem.

Could this be a registry issue? Are paths stored in registry?

Cheers

: : Hi

: : I am having trouble setting an alternate path to store investment files.

: : Funds manager is deliberatly not installed to c:/program files/fundsmanager, yet every time I exit, the software tries & fails to save investments to this (empty)location
: : It also records a new investment I have just set up as being read only when I try to save for the first time - when in fact it does not yet exist as a file (I have checked)

: : In preferences, I can set the backup location, but not the investment & portfolio file locations. I can however load & update existing investments from my alternative instaled location. Attempts to back up fail, as the new investment seems to first want to save to the non existand loation on C:/ drive

: : I can also see the properties of the various original subportfolios are showing correct file locations on d:/ drive.

: : I suspect a registry problem may be the cause (I just had to reinstall windows) - but I would really like to see direct user control/override of file storage locations, whether or not stored in registry as well

: : Are you able to cast any light on this? How can I proceed without exiting & reinstalling funds manager?

: : Cheers

: Hi Paul,

: It sounds like the error message you're getting is from the automatic backup? What does the message say? Are you sure you've specified the backup path to a valid (non read-only) folder? What if you turn off the automatic backup, do you still get the error?

: You specify the location of your investment and portfolio files when you create them. You can also move them, and wherever you open them from is where they will get saved back to. You can look at the "Location" field in the Portfolio Editor to see where all your investments/portfolios were opened from.

: Thanks,
: Mark
