: Mark
: I have this question (or maybe it is a suggestion)
: An important element in my portfolio (but, I guess, in most people's portfolios, especially for active traders / investors) is the number of investments (money invested) in a bullish direction vs. the number of investments in a bearish direction.
: It would be nice to be able to see, in a report, the performance of bullish vs bearish investments, the amount allocated in each group etc etc.
: The answer to this problem is not just as easy as looking at long vs short investments. If I buy a PUT option, that is a long investment, but it is a bearish one. If I go short a PUT option, that is a short position, but it is a bullish one. If I buy an inverted etf (for example, QID, but there are many others), that is a long position, but it is a bearish one. And so forth.
: So, the question is: is there a way to discriminate between bullish and bearish positions? (besides creating ad hoc sub-portfolios, which of course is a solution in a way, but not a very good one, cause most people probably want to create sub-portfolios according to other kinds of criteria - at least, that is my case).
: Bottom line: it would be nice to have, in the investment property dialog, for each investment, a simple bullish / bearish "flag", adjustable by the user in a discretionary way, so that in the reports one can easily create ad hoc reports for the two "directional" groups of investment.
: As usual, thanks for the great program, and apologies for my english.

: John

Hi John,

Thanks for the idea/feedback. If you're not using your categories for something else, you could use them for this. Go to "Options / Category Labels..." and under either Asset Type or Investment Goal define 2 of these to be "Bullish" and "Bearish". Now you can assign any investment to either one of these under "Investment Properties... / Asset Type or Investment Goal". You can now report and graph using these categories.

Thanks,
Mark
