: How does this menu command handle opened portfolios? Is it supposed to save subporfolios and portfolios upon closing them, or does it close them without saving any changes?

: I just spent about an hour building a subportfolio, and after closing and re-opening the subportfolio, none of the changes appeared, which is rather a disaster for me.

: On a related note, how can one tell how many portfolios or subportfolios are opened? The only way opened subportfolios seems discernable is the flickering screen, so far as I can tell.

Hi Steve,

These commands do almost the same thing. They both close everything.

The "Close Portfolio" command will not be available if you don't have a portfolio open. This is possible if you were to just open investments.

If you do a "Close Portfolio" and you've made changes to the currently open portfolio it will automatically be saved if you have "Options / Save Portfolio On Exit" turned on. If you don't have it turned on, you will be prompted to see if you want to save it before closing.

"Close All Investments" closes all the open investments, and sub-portfolios, and doesn't ask you about saving changes to your portfolio. I just noticed this, and it is not good, so we'll get that fixed for the next version. Maybe this is what happened to your data?

If you have all the investments, you can just "open" them instead of re-creating them again.

What was your goal of using one of these commands? If you're trying to remove a sub-portfolio do this from within the Portfolio Editor. Select the sub-portfolio, and use "Edit / Close".

To find the number of sub-portfolios, use the Portfolio Editor. Select the topmost sub-portfolio, and look at its properties.

Thanks,
Mark
