Performance figures

Hi,

I have a portfolio named Indices in which I track the daily closing values of DJIA, S&P 500, etc. I noticed in the newspaper this morning these 12-month percent change figures:

DJIA +6.20
S&P500 +4.33

But Fund Manager reports on the main screen these 1y figures:

DJIA +7.83
S&P500 +6.83

As DJIA closed on 12/30/05 at 10717.50 and is now at 11381.47, it would seem the correct percentage gain is 6.19519%. Do I have a setting off somewhere? I've also noticed the performance percentages for the funds I track are higher than those reported by the fund company.
