: i have a large number of portfolios, each containing 3 stocks. some individual stocks are in several portolios. many of the portfolios are generally not used but i don't want to delete them since i may need them for research in the future. but i don't want to be looking through all of them when i there are fewer that are currently used day to day.

: i attemped to create a new folder ('open portfolio'>new folder) then dragging the unused portfolios to the new folder. but i have found that if try to open them from the new folder (they are all still in the 'my-data' folder), fm tells my it can't find the investments.

: the portfolio editor doesn't seem to help since in only operates on a currently open portfolio, but not the master porfolio.

: how do i resolve this?

Hi Jeffrey,

Portfolio files (*.mm4) contain the relative path to their investment, so if you move the portfolio file relative to its investment, it won't be able to find them. With the new 7.x version, and sub-portfolios, I'd suggest putting everything in one top level portfolio file, and creating sub-portfolios. This way, you can more easily switch around and look at different portfolios. You can use the Portfolio Editor and use copy/paste to combine your multiple portfolios files into one, with multiple sub-portfolios. For more on this, see:
